Today the Russian State Geological Prospecting University named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze (MGRI) hosted the qualifying stage of «Case-in» International Engineering Championship (Student League) in "Geologic Exploration". RosGeo is the general partner of the event in this profile.

The championship is held in the format of a team competition in the solution of engineering cases devoted to real production issues and developed on the basis of the materials from the industry companies. The solutions of the participants are evaluated by the Expert Commission consisting of representatives of the authorities, leading companies, universities and sectoral research and educational centers. Since 2016 RosGeo has been rendering the assistance in conduct of the competition.

A few days before the qualifying stage the participants received a case with tasks, the answers to which were to be presented to the Expert Commission in the form of a project. The teams were formed from among the students and post-graduates of the geological exploration, geophysical and hydrogeological faculties of MGRI. 6 teams of 10 applied have been admitted to defend the projects.

Valentin Kryazhev, Deputy Director of the Department of Geology of Solid Minerals, represented RosGeo in the Expert Commission.

“It is pleasant to see the interest and commitment to the result in the growing generation of specialists,” - he noted. - Each team has demonstrated the unique approach to solution of the set tasks on development of mini-projects for exploration works on kimberlite pipe. Many non-standard and truly creative approaches of the championship participants made even the experts among the members of the Commission have second thought. And the winners literally suppressed the jury with their openness, assertiveness and knowledge of the issue."

The first place was taken by the team "Geologists" consisting of the students of the 4-th and 5-th grades. They will take part in the final of the championship, which will be held in Moscow at the end of May.

Traditionally, more than 5000 students become the participants in the competition. Last year the final was preceded by qualifying stages in 55 leading technical universities in Russia and three CIS countries.
